Here's an old postcard that my parents bought years ago
And here is a painting I did in watercolor on canvas from the old postcard
Any photo you might have could be painted in rich color and it could look exactly like the original or altered to your taste. In this comparison I left out a few elements and added a few for a more creative edge.

This example is taken from a photo a client gave me of his parents. I discussed with him some of my aesthetic concerns and obstructions, and also I asked to change his mothers shirt. We both agreed and he loved the outcome.
